Why I Built SoleMiles: A Global Directory of Run Clubs

I’ve always enjoyed building things as a software engineer, but many of my past projects were over complicated and never reached the finish line. This time, I wanted to focus on something simple and useful.

Why Running?

I’ve been running for the past two years and have completed two half marathons and two full marathons. During my second marathon prep, those early morning long runs started feeling tougher. I kept thinking: this would be easier and more fun with a group of like minded individuals.

So I went looking for run clubs.

The Problem with Finding Run Clubs

Even in large cities, information was scattered: Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, word of mouth, and random forum posts. I also saw travelers asking for local run club recommendations and piecing together answers across threads and DMs.

It felt harder than it should be.

The Idea for SoleMiles

I asked a simple question: why don’t we have a global directory of run clubs?

A “boring” idea, maybe, but exactly the kind of tool runners might find valuable.

How SoleMiles Helps

On SoleMiles you can:

  • Browse run clubs by city or country
  • See weekly schedules and meetup locations/maps
  • List your club (for organisers) so more people can find you in minutes

Looking Ahead

My hope is that SoleMiles makes it easier for runners to find community, especially when moving to a new city or traveling. At the same time, I want to help local clubs grow and give new runners an easier way to take that first step. Running with a group often makes easier to start.

If you’re a runner or a club organiser, I’d love your feedback on how to make this more useful for the community. 🙏
